[ Ray calls Caitlin almost immediately after this broadcast. He's been locked in a room with two geniuses writing formulas on the wall, so forgive him, he doesn't look like he's in the most normal state of mind.
But that said, it isn't until they were actually making that video that Ray immediately thought of Caitlin. ]
Soooo ... let's just say hypothetically that I'm working on a formula to put monsters to sleep that won't affect humans. And let's also say that hypothetically that I'm stuck.
[ Ray laughs and shakes his head, before drinking some coffee. ]
[ She's a little surprised to have the video message come through because she hasn't checked the network and has missed the broadcast, for the moment. That, and Ray certainly looks a little...well. Not entirely himself? He's overworked himself, that's clear to see, and if anyone knows the signs of overworking one's self, it's Caitlin Snow.
In spite of herself, she laughs a little at the request and nods. ]
Okay, so...I can try. All we have to do is create a sleeping agent that doesn't react with the human brain in the same way as it reacts with an animal one, or we can...I don't know, use human DNA to create an antidotal element which will, essentially, affect the humans but then immediately turn around and cure the humans by reconstructing the body's original chemical composition while not offering the same thing to the monsters.
[ She chews her bottom lip slightly in thought. ]
It's going to take time, Ray. How much time do we have?
[ She's managed more outlandish solutions to bigger problems than this in small periods of time, but rushing always makes her more nervous about the end result, so if she can avoid the rush, she'd like to. If not, well. It is what it is. ]
[ Thank god she picked up, honestly. Or, not picked up exactly, because his first message out was recorded, but now that she's responded, they're going live. ]
Ummmm....
48 hours?
[ He grins, this time, very apologetically. He should have called her two days ago. But two days ago ... Ray and Michael and Tony had been arguing whether or not they could just contain this with only engineering ... and ... then two days passed and he has no idea how it happened. ]
But! I have a sample of the creature's DNA. Multiple samples actually, so we have some room for error there if you want to run tests. I've been trying to isolate unique strands to target, and I've had some luck but it doesn't always work. But god how did I not think about human DNA and creating an antidote to my own sleeping gas?!?
[ Caitlin lets out a sigh at that. Forty eight hours isn't a lot of time, so this will most definitely be a challenge, but neither is it too much of a time crunch. It's doable, but it'll be down to the wire, she thinks. ]
Well that's 24 more than I was worried you were going to give me.
[ She seems to brighten a little when he mentions that he has samples of the monster's DNA. That might actually make it even easier, if the monster is singular or at least is the only species that they're dealing with, because that way, she can develop to target the monster rather than to target all and cure humans.
Still, Ray's thought of that so Caitlin worries thoughtfully at her bottom lip with her teeth for a moment before responding. ]
Okay, so then we come at it from two angles and meet in the middle to cover our ground. I'll be there shortly if you can just kind of...guide me as to where there is. I've never been.
Is now a good time to tell you that it wouldn't be the worst idea, if we could do this in 24?
[ Okay really though, it's time to get serious. ]
Oh right yes. Of course I can do that. I'll send you the directions. [ Which, honestly, is not a sentence that Ray thought he'd ever say ever again. Not after Google Maps. He's still kicking himself a little for not inventing Google Maps.
And once Caitlin gets there, and actually gets to review his actual work, she'll get immediately why Ray has been focused on the monster's DNA. It's not even as broad as a single species that Ray's worried about. It's one parent, and a thousand children. Fast breeders, these monsters, but it also means they share DNA. ]
[ She says it with a tone that's both warning and amused. If he knew her better, he'd know that she'll be aiming to finish it as soon as possible and that twenty-four hour deadlines are preferable to forty-eight hour ones, anyway. Instead, she smiles a little when he gets back on track and says he'll send her instructions. ]
Okay, I'll be there soon, then. I'll head out right now.
(( ooc: do you want to keep playing out here, move it to a thread, or handwave her arrival? I'm okay with any of these things. :) ))
I don't know if you saw the ads everywhere for that Blossom Picnic thing, but I was wondering if you'd like to go with me? It would be really nice to go with someone I know from home.
I didn't, is that part of the Flower Festival? It sounds like it must be. Things have been crazy the past couple of days, so maybe I did see it and just didn't register haha. I would love to, sure! When and where should we meet to go?
Oh, that sounds really neat! Noon sounds good; that'll give me time to finish up what I've been working on before I take a long lunch for it. Do you need me to bring anything or do they have food there, or...? I really should've done my research, I am so sorry haha
Don't worry about it. As far as I can tell, they're selling pre-packaged lunches. I planned to pick one up. We could always meet and grab something there before we settle? I'll bring the blanket and something to drink for both of us.

I think it's starting sometime in the late morning. We could meet up there around noon, maybe?

or...? I really should've done my research, I am so sorry haha

Do you like beer or wine? I can't remember.
no subject
Both, honestly, but if I'm going to pit them against each other, wine. Not picky about red, blush, white; they're all good, in my opinion.

See you then, Caitlin!
